Saving Troubled Projects

Saving Troubled Projects

If you’ve ever seen the movie “Pulp Fiction,” you may remember a character referred to as “the fixer.”   The main characters, Jules (Samuel L. Jackson) and Vincent (John Travolta), had gotten themselves into quite a messy situation, a mess only Winston Wolfe (Harvey Keitel), “the fixer,” could get cleaned up for them. He shows up and handles the situation with a professionalism, confidence and efficiency that clearly come from years of experience.

For a variety of reasons, a company may find themselves in a messy situation where development of their product is at a standstill, the path to completion unclear. Device IQ has stepped in as “the fixer” on many projects in exactly this situation. Our team has proven success in assessing the state of a project in jeopardy, developing a plan to complete the project and carrying out that plan to a successful outcome.

In one situation, a new client approached us with a half-finished system. Their developers had been working part-time nights and weekends and had burnt out. To make matters worse, the developers had not documented their intended design. With no roadmap and on a tight budget, Device IQ was able to pick up where the previous team had left off and complete the project which is now the client’s flagship product installed at nearly one hundred sites across the country.

Another time a client brought us a project involving legacy firmware that needed to be updated to communicate with a Windows application using an IR interface. The client had already spent a substantial amount of money with another consultant who knew the firmware well but had not been able to deliver a solution. Engineers at Device IQ were able to assess the state of the firmware and software, put together a plan to complete the project and ultimately delivered a finished product as well as provided training to the client’s engineering team to allow them to support the product in the future.

There is no substitute for experience. Our team of Principal Software Engineers has spent an average of over twenty years developing software and firmware products of the highest caliber. We have seen a little bit of everything and like Winston Wolfe, we solve problems.
